Jeff Vanderstelt speaks about Gospel Fluency

Do yourself a favor and listen to Jeff Vanderstelt's (Soma) Gospel Fluency message. It was, for me, a very impactive message I am currently listening through for the second time.

TO STRUGGLE IS TO SURVIVE

I saw this today in a Postal Pal today (like a UPS store) and thought it was wonderful.

THE BUTTERFLY... A man found a cocoon of a butterfly. One day a small opening appeared, he sat and watched the butterfly for several hours as it struggled to force its body through that little hole. Then it seemed to stop making any progress. It appeared as if it had gotten as far as it could and it could go no farther. So the man decided to help the butterfly, he took a pair of scissors and snipped off the remaining bit of the cocoon. The butterfly then emerged easily. But it had a swollen body and small, shriveled wings. The man man continued to watch the butterfly because he expected that, at any moment, the wings would enlarge and expand to be able to support the body, which would contract in time. Neither happened! In fact, the butterfly spent the rest of its life crawling around with a swollen body and shriveled wings. It never was able to fly. What the man in his kindness and haste did not understand was the restricting cocoon and the struggle required for the butterfly to get through the tiny opening was God's way of forcing fluid from the body of the butterfly into its wings so that it would be ready for the flight once it achieved it's freedom from the cocoon.

Sometimes struggles are exactly what we need in our life. If God allowed us to go through life without any obstacles, it would cripple us. We would not be as strong as what we could have been. And we could never fly. So have a nice day and struggle a little.

LOVE THY NEIGHBOR

AUTHOR: EvidenceBible.com

Part of NOTE ON PSALM 49:7
But our zeal for the salvation of sinners shouldn’t be limited to our loved ones. Salvation in the heart of the Christian should cause him to love his neighbor as he loves himself.

READING THE BIBLE

AUTHOR: D.A. Carson, Must I Learn How to Interpret the Bible?

But the process can be accelerated by reading meditatively, self-critically, humbly, honestly, thereby discovering where the Word challenges the outlooks and values of our time and place. It is accelerated by the right kinds of small-group Bible studies (e.g. those that include devout Christians from other cultures), and from the best of sermons.

FASTING

AUTHOR: EvidenceBible.com

NOTE ON PSALM 35:13
It is wise to make fasting a way of life. Missing a meal on a regular basis will help you to keep your appetite in check. It will also put a joyful thanksgiving in your heart every time you sit down to a meal.
